Regional Talk - MENA Region
Recent activities and initiatives on the ground suggest that the open data community is growing and gaining momentum in the MENA region. For example, the data-driven innovation regional workshop in Cairo (www.ddi-mena.org, Feb 2016) brought together over 100 data enthusiasts, who shared encouraging open data, big data and data-driven innovation initiatives.  Moreover, Jordan, Tunisia and Morocco are moving ahead with their open government plans, while the Egyptian government has shown renewed interest in developing an open government policy and re-joining the Open Government Partnership (OGP). Another promising initiative was the establishment of the first Open Data Institute (ODI) node in the MENA region in 2015. In this session, panellist will reflect on this progress and discuss some of the exciting opportunities to move forward and further grow this budding community.
