Anne Jellema

World Wide Web Foundation
Chief Executive Officer
Biography: Anne Jellema is Chief Executive Officer of the World Wide Web Foundation, an organisation established by Web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee "to advance the open Web as a public good and a basic right." Open data - in combination with an open Web - forms one of the Foundation's three pillars of work. In recent years, the Foundation has helped to lead the international Open Data Charter, monitored progress through its annual Open Data Barometer report, and experimented with new ways for communities to use data to solve local problems through Open Data Labs.

Anne has over 15 years experience as a development worker and human rights campaigner. At the Foundation, she leads a team of more than 30, based in four hubs around the globe.  Prior to joining the Foundation in 2012, she was the International Director of Policy and Campaigns for ActionAid, and also oversaw the organisation’s global programming on women’s rights, education and food rights. She helped to found the Global Campaign for Education and served as its first coordinator from 2001 to 2005. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Anne was a Marshall Scholar at King’s College, Cambridge and a Mellon Century Fellow at the University of Chicago.
