Title proposal: Leaving no one behind: localising global goals for data-driven community development in Kenya.

Biography: Karen Rono works with Development Initiatives based in the Nairobi office, her role covers the East African region and heads the technical work for the organisation in the region. She has over five years experience in research and training which has included working in the fields of statistics, economic and social development, Poverty, humanitarian assistance and finance. Her day to day work involves data analysis both of financial and non financial (demographic and socio economic as well as policy analysis) nature and translating the findings into key messages that inform decisions. She believes access to knowledge and information is a key tool in building knowledgeable communities. This not only equips communities with the needed skills to make informed decisions that affect their lives, but are also able to engage their policy makers.

Having worked in the East Africa region, Karen has seen the value that open data brings to communities and the unique role that communities can play in contributing to the generation of this data (both as producers and consumers).

When Karen is not at work, she likes farming, travelling and being with family & friends.
